Seven Days to Learn: Rainbow Six: Siege

Seven Days to Learn: Rainbow Six: Siege

So, there is a new addiction going on in the group … It’s called Rainbow Six: Siege. Seriously, everyone is going a bit crazy, as you can see here, here, and here – and basically everywhere if you have been following us for the last couple of weeks. And of course I was too cheap to get the game on release so I started about six weeks after everyone already familiarized themselves with it. Since you seemed to enjoy the diary style I did a couple of years ago I’ll just take notes about the first seven (spoiler alert: It’s [...]

PC Gaming in… 2006

PC Gaming in… 2006

Greetings, XP4Ts. You may have noticed that the XP4T blog here is back in business, which I hope is as happy news for you as it is for us. As you may or may not know, we all work in the industry ourselves, so time is a somewhat limited resource and the site sometimes goes on an unannounced hiatus for a while. But this time of year is often serendipitous for many of our schedules, so here we are again. Welcome back! At Christmas this year I had a cracker in which the motto read, ‘The road ahead is often illuminated by the [...]

Do The Division & Siege Share the same Universe?

Do The Division & Siege Share the same Universe?

-Or, The Division & Siege Mash-up! By no stretch of the imagination is it too far fetched that both Tom Clancy’s The Division and Tom Clancy’s Siege share the same universe. Obviously from a time line perspective, story elements from The Division wouldn’t be in Siege due to the fact that The Division centers around one particular event and the consequences of the aftermath. But on the flip side, if anyone was to be prepared for the downfall of western civilization and the restructuring of society, then Rainbow Six Siege operators are your go-to guys and gals.  It would stand [...]

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Multiplayer Preview

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Multiplayer Preview

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is a real-time strategy computer game under development by Blackbird Interactive, published by Gearbox Software and scheduled for release on January 20, 2016. It is a prequel to the 1999 space-based real-time strategy video game Homeworld. The game is set on the desert planet of Kharak, the home-in-exile of the Kushan (Hiigaran) people, 114 years prior to the events of Homeworld. Kharak is a dying world, the desert growing larger with each passing year, and the Kushan clans regularly war amongst one another. Then a satellite detects an object in the Great Banded Desert, known as [...]

World of Tanks: Generals

World of Tanks: Generals

No one was more surprised than me when I heard that a card game based on World of Tanks was being added to the Wargaming line-up. World of Tanks Generals is a free-to-play, browser-based Collectible Card Game focused on tank combat (with in-game purchases to support the ‘free’ part, obviously). I was lucky enough to get hold of a Closed Beta key, and I’m going to tell you what I think about WoTG, but before we begin I should tell you I’m no great CCG fan and I’m pretty hard to please. Not only does the game have to be enjoyable, but the setting has to be right too [...]

Homefront, better than you thought it was..

Homefront, better than you thought it was..

When we were suggesting games for our list of Most anticipated Games of 2015 I threw Homefront 2 into the mix. Two days later, when the laughter had died down and they finally realised I wasn’t trolling, they wanted to know why. ‘It’s simple’, I told them. ‘Because the original Homefront is one of the best FPSs I’ve ever played!’ (But with a hell of a lot of caveats!). Now before I go on, I’m not talking about the single player campaign, which was the worst kind of linear shit imaginable. The protagonist can fly a helicopter and operate any number of guns and explosives, but can’t open a [...]

Poll: Best PC RPGs of the 1990s

Poll: Best PC RPGs of the 1990s

Welcome to the days of yore! Back here in the 1990s we’re all having a colourful multicultural revolution, hip-hoppers and grungers alike, looking ahead to the true rise of the Internet at the end of the decade. Some of you  may have very fond memories of the early days of PC RPGs, while some of you may not even have been born. Either way, as PC gamers our rich legacy of dice-rolling and orc-slaying established in crude CGA and 16-colour VGA graphics in the 1980s positively exploded in the 1990s. One of the reasons we’re running these polls is to help you discover [...]

Week in Review (08/2015)

Week in Review (08/2015)

Bit of a slow week for us here at XP4T Towers. With Neoheresy still away on his top-secret mission to stop the Libyans from acquiring Play-Doh technology, the Crazycatlady busy tinkering with her new Alienware laptop (wooh, the lights!), DigBick up to his eyeballs in interviews and PsychoSyd lost in a world of quiz-making and RPG poll conducting, it has fallen to me to feed the cats, scrape out the microwave and write the news. Fortunately, it was a bit busier out there in the world of games. Let’s have a look at some of the highlights. Monday tumbled out of bed and staggered to [...]

Week in Review (07/2015)

Morning people. Neurotic here, covering for Neoheresy whilst he’s off on a business trip (read: doing blow and picking up hookers). It’s the start of a new week, and who knows what it will bring. If it’s anything like last week, it should be a good one. Well, except for Runescape player Josh Peters, who on Monday was ‘Swatted’ whilst livestreaming in front of 60,000 people. If you don’t know what that is, you’re lucky. But if you do, then you’ll know that it’s when idiots telephone the police and report terrible criminal doings at the address of someone livestreaming a game etc. [...]
