World of Tanks: Generals

World of Tanks: Generals

No one was more surprised than me when I heard that a card game based on World of Tanks was being added to the Wargaming line-up. World of Tanks Generals is a free-to-play, browser-based Collectible Card Game focused on tank combat (with in-game purchases to support the ‘free’ part, obviously). I was lucky enough to get hold of a Closed Beta key, and I’m going to tell you what I think about WoTG, but before we begin I should tell you I’m no great CCG fan and I’m pretty hard to please. Not only does the game have to be enjoyable, but the setting has to be right too [...]

Week in Review (09/2015)

Unless you’ve been living under a Horta for the last week, you’ll have heard the incredibly tear-making news that Leonard Nimoy, the actor behind Mr. Spock, passed away on Friday. He’d had a good run though; 83 years-old, a successful actor, director, writer, poet and photographer, so we perhaps shouldn’t feel too sad. As Spock himself once said, “Change is the essential process of all life.” And what greater change can there be than death? Well, for certain nVidia customers, the change from 4 Gb of RAM to 3.5 Gb of RAM plus 500 mb running at a slightly different speed is [...]

Week in Review (08/2015)

Bit of a slow week for us here at XP4T Towers. With Neoheresy still away on his top-secret mission to stop the Libyans from acquiring Play-Doh technology, the Crazycatlady busy tinkering with her new Alienware laptop (wooh, the lights!), DigBick up to his eyeballs in interviews and PsychoSyd lost in a world of quiz-making and RPG poll conducting, it has fallen to me to feed the cats, scrape out the microwave and write the news. Fortunately, it was a bit busier out there in the world of games. Let’s have a look at some of the highlights. Monday tumbled out of bed and staggered to [...]

Week in Review (07/2015)

Morning people. Neurotic here, covering for Neoheresy whilst he’s off on a business trip (read: doing blow and picking up hookers). It’s the start of a new week, and who knows what it will bring. If it’s anything like last week, it should be a good one. Well, except for Runescape player Josh Peters, who on Monday was ‘Swatted’ whilst livestreaming in front of 60,000 people. If you don’t know what that is, you’re lucky. But if you do, then you’ll know that it’s when idiots telephone the police and report terrible criminal doings at the address of someone livestreaming a game etc. [...]

New D&D: Sword Coast Legends to arrive later this year

New D&D: Sword Coast Legends to arrive later this year

Well well, this one came out of the blue. N-Gage (millions of high-profile console and hand-held titles, including Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2) and Digital Extremes (UT co-creators, Bioshock PS3 port) have been quietly beavering away on a new D&D RPG, Sword Coast Legends, to be released “this year”. Headed by the director of Dragon Age: Origins and with a dev team including former Neverwinter Nights and Baldur’s Gate staffers, this certainly has the right credentials on the technical side. Gameplay-wise, it looks like an Infinity Engine-style party-based RPG with pause-time tactical combat, set in the Forgotten Realms and using 5th Edition rules. It’s officially licensed [...]

Week in Review (2015/Week 05)

Good evening, and here is the XP4T news with your host, Neoheresy. If you’re a Raptr user, make haste to the password change section of your profile as it may have been stolen, as disclosed by Raptr’s CEO. You may also want to mark Valentine’s Day in you calendars, but this time for gaming purposes, as this is exactly when the open beta launched for pedestrian-squashing classic revival, Carmageddon Reincarnation. At XP4T.com, we love it when gamers shows their talents to the world and make something spectacular with the games they they love. That’s why we were particularly happy to see that a group of avid Portal 2 [...]

Week in Review (2015/Week 04)

16 years later: The Bard’s Tale IV announced Probably the biggest news of last week was the announcement that came on Saturday from inXile‘s CEO Brian Fargo. Ladies and gentlemen, the development of a new Bard’s Tale game is now a fact! Although information on the game so far is rather vague, Fargo confirmed that a Kickstarter campaign would launch soon to allow people to back the project, as happened with inXile’s Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenara. In terms of gameplay, the new Bard’s Tale will be a continuation of the original series (which their mediocre 2004 multi-format/mobile effort was [...]

Greenlight Grab: the Seven Years War

Greenlight Grab: the Seven Years War

Who has the time to trawl through the hundreds of games on Steam Greenlight? We do! And we do it so you don’t have to, so here’s what we think is the best Steam Greenlight has to offer. This time out, we’d like to introduce you to….. The Seven Years War Another Grand Strategy hoping to eat up more of your time, The Seven Years War is still waiting to be greenlit on Steam, and looks not too dissimilar to Empire: Total War, (and if it can even come close to what I would say is the best Total War Creative Assembly has to offer, [...]
