Check out FreeOrion

FreeOrion is a free, open source, turn-based space empire and galactic conquest (4X) computer game being designed and built by the FreeOrion project. FreeOrion is inspired by the tradition of the Master of Orion games, but is not a clone or remake of that series or any other game. Check out the video below, and download the game here.

I personally took a crack at it, but honestly, it’s SUPER COMPLICATED, and when I say SUPER COMPLICATED, that means that I shouldn’t review a game of this level of complexity after 3 whiskeys and 2 beers. It’s one of those games that you can really sink your (sober) teeth into, and forget yourself for hours on end.

So, if you’re a big fan of space 4x games, give it a shot! What do you have to lose?
