Haters Gonna Hate: A editorial response to the backlash over Chinese Gold Farmers in DayZ

Haters Gonna Hate: A editorial response to the backlash over Chinese Gold Farmers in DayZ

Check out the video we posted on YouTube a few days ago called DayZ Chinese Camp Security that’s gone viral. Over 8,000 hits in 3 days (as of publication) Also got a mention in PC Gamer! W00t!

Inadvertently, our quest for virtual security and stability has sparked a heated debate over the moral issue of hiring cheap Chinese gamers to guard in-game virtual goods. I’m actually a bit shocked at the amount of private messages we’ve received from so called “human rights activists”, liberal nut-jobs and politically correct do-gooders, demonizing our actions. A certain individual has even gone so far as to threaten us with bodily harm, if you can believe that.

Here are some examples of the types of messages we’ve been receiving: (please note, we have not corrected grammar or spelling mistakes, we have however removed the names of our virtual assailants to protect their identities, cuz that’s how we roll.)

The last one is my favorite.  It’s direct, to the point, and there’s no period, which give me the feeling of impending doom, as if it could happen at any time.  Dude mosdef does not beat around the bush.  So what gives? What’s all the fuss about? Are we in fact modern day slavers? Do we take advantage of our Eastern brethren? Are they seriously comparing our actions to that of the railroad companies toward Chinese immigrants during the Great Expansion? Bitch, please.

“Dude, we’ll totally guard your shit.”

We’re not going to divulge our specific business dealings with said individuals, but rest assured, it was (and still is) a beneficial arrangement for both parties. Were we happy with the services provided? Damn straight. Did our service providers feel disenfranchised? Doubt it; otherwise they wouldn’t have sent us the video in the first place. We didn’t ask them to film it, the just did.

And for all you haters out there, saying that they’re “just talking about grocery shopping and changing diapers”, I pose to you this question: what would you be talking about with your fellow security guard while pulling a 12 hour shift? These guys have to buy groceries, and take care of their kids too just like most of us do.  (put more of the human element in here)

We are actually doing these guys a favor. Are we benefiting as well? Hell yeah! It’s a win-win situation. It’s Manifest Destiny Chernarus style: if we didn’t do it, someone else would have, and that would put us at the bottom of the food chain, and that ain’t gonna happen.  Our Steady micro-investments practically guarantee our survival.

How many times have you been ganked by some noob, and he ended up stealing everything you had, regardless of your Zed-count,or your acquired gear? Can you quantify that loss? We can, it’s called: Chinese Camp Security.

In all fairness, there have been quite a number of individuals, (sadly not nearly as many as the haters) that have been intrigued by our strategy, and have requested to be put in touch with our little Chinese helpers; so it seems as if the free market is in fact alive and well.  To avoid having them spammed by unwanted emails and attention, please get in touch with us via the contact page and we will see what we can do about putting you in touch with the dudes.

As far as I’m concerned, we should take advantage of the present economic disparity while we still can. Before you know it, the tides will have turned and we’ll be serving our new Chinese overlords virtual tea. #firstworldproblems
