Play AAA Games in Your Browser…for Free

Square Enix has launched an ad-supported gaming platform called Core Online.  The initial games you can play for free are: Lara Croft TGL, Hitman Blood Money and Mini Ninjas.

By watching 1 minute of ads, you earn 20 minutes of playtime.  You just click on a browser link and start playing. No discs. No installation.

Tokyo-based Square Enix’s subsidiary, Hapti.co  developed the technology so that gamers can play popular console quality games on the web.

The technology combines Google’s Native Client platform that allows a web page to tap a computer’s 3D graphics hardware to render images inside the web page. It also takes advantage of Square Enix’s own proprietary technology to extend Core OnLine to both the Firefox and Internet Explorer web browsers.

So go on, make yourself some popcorn, watch like an hours’ worth of ads, and buy yourself some game time. Check it out here.
