Days of Dawn

Days of Dawn

KICKSTARTING AN OLD-SCHOOL ROLE-PLAYING GAME There are a number of RPGs on kickstarter right now, pursuing the goal to bring back the old days of role-playing. We all remember them: 16-bit graphics that looks oh so horrible when we play these games again today, 8bit speaker-sound, isometric combat. Amazing games we spent most of our free time with then, because, like role-playing is supposed to be, it was all in our heads anyway. There’s a bunch of developers out there, wishing to bring back this gaming experience with today’s graphics and sound. One of them is the German Bumblebee-Studio, consisting of a number [...]

Conclave – The Future of Turn Based RPGs

Conclave – The Future of Turn Based RPGs

Most of us roleplaying gamers remember the days when we sat around a table in a musky basement playing pen-and-paper adventure games with friends. Rolling the dice, adopting a unique personality, being terrorized by the game master – all things which ended as soon as life began to catch up. One friend moved across the world, others became too busy, kids came into the picture, all things which made it impossible to gather up for some proper pen and paper gaming. 10×10 Room developers think they found the solution to the problem. Many online games would like to consider themselves [...]

Expeditions: Conquistador – Preview

Expeditions: Conquistador – Preview

Expeditions: Conquistador  or How women were totally the best soldiers ever! There was a time in videogame history when players were not coddled. They were not hugged and no one held their hands while they attempted to take their first fledgling steps across level 1. No. That shit was hard! The first computer gamers (let’s ignore pinball and coin machines like Pong) were mostly made by geeky kids with geeky brains who tried to make the geekiest game for their geeky friends to play. Most of that is gone today, games are played by everyone. Literally, I don’t think there is [...]

Ravaged: The low-down

Ravaged: The low-down

A fast paced vehicular FPS set in a world ravaged (get it?) by a polar shift pitting scavangers vs the resistance in a battle for humanity. The developers of Ravaged, 2Dawn are made up of industry veterans (including Desert Combat, Battlefield, and Homefront developers) along with some fresh talent.  The game was successfully funed on Kickstarter, having gathered over twice the amount that they set out to get (check out their Kickstarter here!)    The game is based on Epic’s Unreal Engine 3, and Epic’s developers have been playing the beta and posting about their support of Ravaged on their facebook page. They were recently invited by OnLive to [...]

Mech Combat FPS at its finest!  I wrote about Hawken  awhile ago, and as you can imagine I’m pretty stoked about this game.  Check out some more footage with the video above… Hawken  is an upcoming independent multiplayer mech combat game under development by Adhesive Games which uses the Unreal Engine (from Epic Games).   This will be Adhesive Games’ first title from the small independent game studio located in Los Angeles, CA.  The game is set for release on 12.12.12 and will be free to play. The fifth edition of The Humble Indie Bundle initiative has just arrived and it is most definitely the best edtion to date and one that has been looked forward to by many.
