DUST 514 is a soon to be released free-to-play multiplayer FPS game, exclusively for PS3, that is directly connected with the EVE Online® universe. Got that?
Basically, DUST 514 offers intense infantry combat (read: FPS), large-scale warfare and complex character advancement in a system-exclusive free-to-play persistent shooter set in, and integrated with, the massive universe of EVE Online®. Now that is a lot of cross platform goodness!
In all honesty though, don’t be fooled by the ‘large-scale warfare’. This is still PS3 we’re talking about, and if you’re a PS3 gamer, you’re quite aware of the multiplayer limitations. Now get this, their definition of ‘large scale warfare’ is this:
DUST 514 can support 24v24 matches in a single battle in a single district on a single planet, and there can be multiple battles on a planet happening simultaneously, impacting each other in real time. The scale of DUST 514 is unprecedented.
So basically their saying that because a lot of servers are hosting the game simultaneously, it makes it large-scale warfare. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. I don’t know, but where I come from ‘large scale warfare’ means that there are a LOT of people on a map at the same time!
Regardless, DUST 514 will be launching later this year, exclusively on PlayStation®3.
There was a beta phase for the game back in June, but it’s over now..but don’t be sad! XP4T is hoping to get its hands on a buttload of beta keys (yes, that sounds painful) – so stay tuned!
