Homefront, better than you thought it was..

Homefront, better than you thought it was..

When we were suggesting games for our list of Most anticipated Games of 2015 I threw Homefront 2 into the mix. Two days later, when the laughter had died down and they finally realised I wasn’t trolling, they wanted to know why. ‘It’s simple’, I told them. ‘Because the original Homefront is one of the best FPSs I’ve ever played!’ (But with a hell of a lot of caveats!). Now before I go on, I’m not talking about the single player campaign, which was the worst kind of linear shit imaginable. The protagonist can fly a helicopter and operate any number of guns and explosives, but can’t open a [...]

Week in Review (2015/Week 05)

Good evening, and here is the XP4T news with your host, Neoheresy. If you’re a Raptr user, make haste to the password change section of your profile as it may have been stolen, as disclosed by Raptr’s CEO. You may also want to mark Valentine’s Day in you calendars, but this time for gaming purposes, as this is exactly when the open beta launched for pedestrian-squashing classic revival, Carmageddon Reincarnation. At XP4T.com, we love it when gamers shows their talents to the world and make something spectacular with the games they they love. That’s why we were particularly happy to see that a group of avid Portal 2 [...]

Trauma in the Desert: How One Mod Defined an Entire Series (Part 2)

Trauma in the Desert: How One Mod Defined an Entire Series (Part 2)

We’re on a mission, people, a mission to discover how one mod changed the entire face of a AAA gaming franchise. If you missed last week’s briefing, get yourself up to speed here, then lock and load for Part 2 below… In a nutshell, one Swedish development team, Refraction Games, made the legendary online WWII shooter, Codename Eagle (1999). Refraction were then acquired by another Swedish outfit, Digital Illusions CE (DICE), and together they would give the world Battlefield 1942, back in 2002. BF 1942 proved itself both highly popular and highly moddable, and it’s as the Battlefield modding craze [...]

CAN’T F*CKIN’ WAIT: Star Wars Battlefront

CAN’T F*CKIN’ WAIT: Star Wars Battlefront

WHAT SIDE WILL YOU CHOOSE? Star Wars: Battlefront is an upcoming title currently under development by EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE)  and to be published by Electronic Arts. It is scheduled for release in late-2015 for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is the third main entry in the Star Wars: Battlefront series. In May 2013, publisher/developer Electronic Arts obtained exclusive rights to develop the Star Wars games for gaming consoles, and its subsidiaries DICE, Visceral Games, and BioWare started work on various Star Wars games. DICE first acknowledged the game at Electronic Arts’ E3 2013 press conference, along with a teaser [...]

Trauma in the Desert: How One Mod Defined an Entire Series

Trauma in the Desert: How One Mod Defined an Entire Series

Saying that modding is one of the great advantages of PC gaming is an understatement. Mod(ification)s take many forms, from ‘unofficial’ patches that fix problems developers can’t or won’t deal with, to adding in totally new content or modifying existing content. Sometimes though, they go a step further and radically change the way a game looks, plays and feels, like the Super Skyrim Brothers mod for Skyrim, which exchanges the grim barbarians and frozen tundra of the latest Elder Scrolls for bouncy, colourful Mario cuteness. Sometimes, mods make the base game inarguably better than the ‘vanilla’ version of the game. [...]

Battlefield 1942 for Zilch

Battlefield 1942 for Zilch

Back in the day, BF 1942 was THEE game to play. The amount of mods, and the addition of bots in the coop game mode made the game a lot of fun, even if you were just playing with a few friends. In fact, we played Battlefield 1942 at my first LAN party, yes, check the flyer if you don’t believe me! EA has released its seminal PC first-person shooter Battlefield 1942 for free on Origin. “This is in honour of the series’ 10 year anniversary as well as Battlefield 3’s premium service acquiring over two million members worldwide since [...]
