Review: Lara Croft GO (Plus: Happy Holidays!)

Review: Lara Croft GO (Plus: Happy Holidays!)

Greetings, XP4Ts. There’s less than a week to go before Christmas/Hanukkah/Festivus etc, and also that universal celebration of December gaming known as the Steam Winter Sale (22/12-04/01). I’m sitting here late on a Saturday night, relaxing with Lara Croft GO, which was released just this month by Squeenix’s Montréal, Canada branch. And as I sit here thrilling at my tiny, perfect, polygonal Lara, it occurs to me that I opened this year on XP4T with a review of Rise of The Tomb Raider and a bit of a flap about Tomb Raider (2013). So what better way to close the [...]

Re-skin of The Tomb Raider

Re-skin of The Tomb Raider

Since the recent conclusion of my adventure with the most excellent Rise of The Tomb Raider, I’ve been playing the earlier entry in the rebooted Lara franchise, Tomb Raider (2013). Not having played it before, I was concerned that – as often seems to happen when you play a series out of order – it would prove to be a lesser experience. Less polished, less presentable, less friendly, less… less. But on the technical front, which is the biggest stumbling block for backwards-playing gamers, I’ve been very pleasantly surprised. Quick, they’re getting away! GTA V PC slips to late March Sorry, folks, Christmas is cancell… GTA V is not coming to your PC on Jan 27th. Rockstar Games have announced that the game will now be coming to its natural home two months later than the previously established release date. The latest instalment in the Grand Theft Auto series will now be kicking down our doors on March 24th. And as much as it pains us to say so right now, it is quite comforting to see the R* folks being rather honest about the reasons for the postponement: “Our apologies for the slight shift [...]

Book some time off — HOMM3 HD to debut late next month News of the week, by a long mile. On January 29th, Ubisoft will release an HD version of one of the best strategy games ever made – Heroes of Might And Magic III. The modern-day conversion will be compatible with widescreen resolutions and will include visual tweaks that let you enjoy all 7 campaigns and 50 skirmish maps from the main game (but sadly not the three expansion packs). Additionally, the multiplayer mode will take advantage of Steamworks to make finding people to play with a lot easier. Check it out below. Witch way did [...]

Week in Review (2014/Week 48)

Free DLC and (for some) a free Ubisoft game for Unity owners Ubisoft are doing their best to deal with the AC Unity post-release nightmare. “I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.” said Ubisoft Montreal CEO, Yannis Mallat. As a practical way of saying “sorry” to customers who had to deal with a buggy, glitchy game (to say the least), customers were promised a free DLC when its development is [...]
