Beamdog confirm two new games in the works
Beamdog have confirmed that they are indeed working on two new games, one of which will act as a bridge between Baldur’s Gate I and BGII. In a blog post released on Thursday, Amber Scott from Beamdog confirmed the developers are waist-deep in making two new games. One of them, going by the code name Adventure Y, will be an RPG set in Faerûn and will tell a story set between Baldur’s Gate I and II, using the classic Infinity Engine. The other game looks to be a product in a different genre than role playing, and was described by Amber as “a departure for us in terms of what we’ve done in the past“. It was also confirmed that the new game will feature sharks!
More news about both titles should become available beginning of summer.
Mafia III rumoured to be in development
Leaks and gossip are what gamers love, and one of Mafia II’s voice actors – Rick Pasqualone – has leaked to the gamingverse that an announcement concerning Mafia III might be coming up real fast. Although there have been rumours over the last year that the re-organization of the 2K Czech studio might be related to the start of Mafia III development, this has never been confirmed. Another rumor has it that the 2K Marin guys and gals might also be involved in the project. We’ll keep listening to what the willows whisper, and will let you know any new developments as they occur.
Witcher 3 system reqs look rather high
Our buddies at PurePC.pl will surely be laying their hands on The Witcher III when it’s finally out, so we’ll be running another Will it Run article based on their findings. As you can probably imagine, our initial reaction was ‘OMG! This is insane!’. Two days later – as I write these words – the reaction here still hasn’t changed much. It looks like only high-end rig owners will be able to enjoy every last ounce of beauty in the Witcher III. And that’s guaranteed ONLY if the Recommended specs are given for optimum play at res with ~50-60 FPS. We’ve asked CD Projekt Red for a comment on this, and we’ll come back to you if we hear from them.
GTA V PC release on schedule
About two weeks ago, a rumour began circulating that the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V may not hit the shelves on January 27th, as scheduled. The controversy was sparked by Rockstar Games itself after they failed to release the game’s hardware requirements around Christmas, as they had previously said they would. Thankfully, the company was kind enough to confirm the date in a reply to a Tech Support ticket issued by a fan.
Elder Scrolls Online going F2P?
We might be in for another MMO franchise transitioning from a subscription-based model to Free to Play, if one of the latest rumours wheeling around the Internet is to be believed. The Elder Scrolls Online could be about to make that fundamental change, as Australian branches of EB Games removed all copies of the game (including the pre-paid cards) from their shops, as reported by Kotaku Australia on Friday. Just a while ago, back in December, the six-month subscription cards were also removed from sales.
Update: In a post on their Facebook page, EB Australia confirmed that the removal of the boxed copies and game time cards was in fact part of standard post-Christmas stocktaking practise, and not, as widely reported, a sign that the game may be going F2P.
