As part of our ongoing work with PurePC.pl to keep you informed about how well you can expect your rig to run various high-end games, here’s another in the Will it Run? series that aims to provide you with a clear answer to whether or not your PC can cope with Assassins’s Creed:Unity. In this case, however, the answer will most likely not be one you’ll like.
AC: Unity was released with a multitude of functional bugs, ranging from busted controls and broken texture loading to the main protagonist clipping though the streets and into an abyss. But perhaps the most flawed aspect of the game is its performance on the PC. Essentially, we are talking about a bad, broken PC port with extreme performance issues that pretty much decimate playability, even now, almost two and a half months after release.
Ubisoft have already admitted that the problem is totally real and have offered all Unity owners free DLC content (for core game owners) and free games (for Season Pass owners). So far, however, an actual solution to the performance hindrances on even the mightiest PCs out there remains as intangible as any Ubi promise.
Still, this is the reality that we must deal with, so let’s get on with the tech stuff. First of all, the official sys reqs, as released by Ubisoft (you bastards):
Minimum:
- Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz / AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
- GeForce GTX 680 2GB / AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB
- 6 GB RAM
- 50 GB HDD space
- Windows 7 SP 1 / Windows 8 / Windows 8.1
Recommended:
- Intel Core i7-3770 3.4 GHz / AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
- GeForce GTX 780 3GB / AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB
- 8 GB RAM
- 50 GB HDD space
- Windows 7 SP 1 / Windows 8 / Windows 8.1
“Holy mackerel, it’s gonna be a monster of a game!” said probably not just one, but many of us PC gamers after seeing the specs for the first time. That was probably the first time we began to question the game’s optimization — based purely on the hardware specs. And damn, were we ever right…
The diagram below shows the game’s performance measured on a mighty i7-3960X 4500 MHz Intel CPU machine with 8GB RAM and a GTX 760 card, where the green bars show FPS at different Detail levels and Texture Resolutions, etc. Take a quick look and try not to cry…
Do NOT approach this game if you insist on playing everything at 40+ FPS with High or Ultra settings, and you do not also have a 780TI or a 790 card inside your rig. And reall, Ubisoft, what the eff?!
